Bio
Chuck Dermer is head of the High Energy Radiation Modeling Section in the Space Science Division of the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. His interests cover many areas of astrophysics, including cosmic rays, the multi-wavelength astronomy of blazars, the physics of neutron stars and black holes, gamma-ray bursts, merging clusters of galaxies, and solar flares.
He received his PhD degree from UCSD in 1984. He has served as an executive committee member in the High Energy Astrophysics Division of the AAS and the Division of Astrophysics of the American Physical Society. He was chair of the Division of Astrophysics from 1999 to 2003, and is now Division Councilor. Dermer has authored or co-authored over 200 technical papers. He also serves on an external advisory committee for the VERITAS ground-based gamma-ray telescope array, and advisory committees concerned with high-energy neutrino astronomy and NASA space science.
The purpose of Charles Dermer's investigation is to analyze and model the data from Fermi and to provide a theoretical framework for Fermi scientific results.
