个人简介
Duncan is a Midwifery & Women's Health Specialist (and a PhD student in Global Health focusing on pre-service midwifery education) with ~10 years experience in health programming, health systems strengthening, training & research. He has successfully implemented complex maternal, newborn & child health (MNCH) integrated health programmes at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), Save the Children International (SCI) and Moi University's Global Health for Women's and Children's Health Research.
Currently, he is LSTM's technical lead (Senior Technical Officer) for the UKAID, Johnson & Johnson Foundation and UNFPA funded programmes on pre-service midwifery & medical education/training in Kenya. He provides technical leadership & management of the programmes that aim to improve the quality of pre-service midwifery & medical training/education through (1) review & updating of national training curricula & guidelines integrating International Confederation of Midwives' & WHO's competencies for midwives & midwifery educators (2) building/strengthening the capacity & competencies of midwifery educators & training institutions to deliver the updated pre-service curricula through training & mentoring systems (3) design/development of the midwifery educator continuous professional development (CPD) program and (4) contributing to the development of ICM/WHO/UNFPA's Midwifery Faculty Development guidelines/standards and pre-service Midwifery Programme (5) evidence generation & dissemination of best practices/implementation research findings contributing to national policy on midwifery training, education & practice.
He offers technical support to the Ministry of Health, Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK), Clinical Officers Council (COC), Kenya Medical Training College and universities' and contributed to the development & review of multiple national guidelines on maternal & newborn health, pre-service nursing/midwifery/medical training curricula & learning resource packages; establishment & strengthening of multiple in-service & pre-service health training & mentorship systems (Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care (EmONC) & EmONC Mentorship Package).
Previously, he worked with Save the Children International in USAID & UKAID funded projects strengthening MNCH service delivery & health systems at the sub-national level improving access & quality of MNCH services/outcomes. He is a peer reviewer & has published in top peer-reviewed journals on midwifery education & MNCH. He is passionate in global maternal & newborn health programming & high-impact research.
