CQ has been dedicated to the theme of "Coordination Bonding and Electronic Dynamics" since 1992, aiming to complementing the classical continuum and the contemporary quantum approaches. His original contributions include the theories of “bond relaxation and transformation” by physical perturbation and chemisorption and solvation, “hydrogen bond (O:H-O) cooperativity”, and the “spectrometrics” of electron emission and diffraction and multifield phonon relaxation. This unique set of strategies have led to massive ground-breaking knowledge about bonding, electronic and molecular dynamics pertained to atomic and molecular undercoordination, multifield solid mechanics and water and ice anomalies, charge hydration by aqueous solvation, and CNOH chemisorption. His contributions have been cultivated into 4 monographs [1-4] (besides their Chinese versions 《价键弛豫》《氢键规则》《水合反应》《计量谱学》), 26 perspectives [5-30], 5 patents [31-35], over 420 journal articles with 14,500 citations, apart from 150 invited talks. CQ has trained over 60 postgraduates and some 20 young investigators. He has developed the courses of “Nanoelectronics” “Electron and Phonon Spectrometrics” and “Water and Civilization”, which have been adopted by numerous institutions.
