个人简介
Professor, VP Advanced Engineering. Bouton is also the managing director of the Center for Bioelectronic Medicine. His work has been featured in high-profile news programs such as 60 Minutes was recognized by the US Congress in 2010 for biomedical technology advancements. Bouton was formerly a Research Leader at Battelle, the world’s largest independent R&D organization. He served as principal investigator for numerous cutting-edge research and development programs.
Bouton has developed neural decoding methods that allowed the first paralyzed person with a brain implant to regain volitional movement using their thoughts alone (2014) and wheelchair control in 2006. He also developed new signal processing methods to help surgeons find cancerous tissue more quickly and effectively. He spent several years developing RF sensing technology which is licensed to multiple medical device companies.
Bouton conducts research and technology development for conditions including paralysis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, cancer, and more. Bouton's expertise includes bio-sensors, neural prosthetics and decoding, and linear and nonlinear signal processing and control methods.
In 2010, Bouton was awarded with Battelle’s highest honor, Inventor of the Year, with over 70 patents internationally. In 2011, he became a Distinguished Inventor at Battelle and was recognized by the National Academy of Engineering in that same year. Finally, Bouton has received three R&D 100 Awards, including the R&D Magazine Editor’s Choice Award for one of the best new technologies of the year. Bouton was also featured in Columbus CEO Magazine in 2012.
