Born in a family led by a father enshrining knowledge more than anything in life, Chi H Chan moved from Macao, his birthplace, to Hong Kong at the age of six for better education opportunities. The family core values of honesty, integrity and sincerity already instilled in him were further reinforced by his secondary school education at St. Francis Xavier’s College from 1970 to 1977 where he met the Jesuit brothers and in particular, Mr. LAU Yue Sum, his Mathematics teacher and an MIT educated electrical engineer and then an attorney, who inspired him of pursuing a science and engineering career.
