Bio
As an academic cardiac electrophysiologist, Dr. Ozcan's research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of arrhythmias and novel therapeutic strategies for management of the patients with heart rhythm disorders. Her clinical research includes the pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments of atrial fibrillation (AF), supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, implantable cardiac devices and prevention of sudden cardiac death. Her current basic research program focuses on the molecular mechanisms of AF and the novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of AF disease process. As an NIH funded investigator, she works on mitochondrial mechanisms of AF and the role of cellular energetics and metabolism in mechanisms of arrhythmias. Dr. Ozcan's ultimate goal is to develop novel therapies for primary and secondary prevention of AF and other arrhythmias by targeting the molecular mechanisms of the disease.
