Bio
She is an experienced clinical researcher Caroline and acupuncture practitioner specialising in women's health and reproductive health. Professor Smith has a background in evidence based research in relation to acupuncture, complementary therapies, integration of Chinese medicine and biomedical research protocols, predominantly in the areas of women's health. She has extensive experience in the design, conduct and analysis of randomised controlled trials.
Professor Smith has received funding from four project grants from the National Health and Medical Research Council. She has a significant track record in obtaining funding from other industry and national funding agencies.
Professor Smith has undertaken 24 studies in the complementary medicine field, with a focus primarily on acupuncture, and aligned to NICM's research clinical priority and theme, Healthy women: promoting sexual and reproductive health. She has a proven track record of research output, and with the conduct of large randomised controlled trials. Professor Smith has published over 125 publications in peer reviewed medical and complementary medicine journals, including high impact journals.
She was awarded the Western Sydney University Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Awards 2015, Excellence in Research, and was also awarded highly commended for Excellence in Postgraduate Research Training and Supervision.
