个人简介
Resuscitation science is my field of research and my mission is to empower bystanders to intervene in case of nearby cardiac arrest. I have been trained in epidemiological research-methods and statistical computer programming by two Danish professors in Cardiology (Christian Torp-Pedersen and Gunnar Gislason) @ Copenhagen Cardiovascular Research Center.
My Ph.D. thesis was aimed at identifying barriers to bystander use of automated external defibrillators in the community from a multifaceted approach. This led me to training in qualitative data collection and analysis, as well as construction of questionnaire surveys by the National Institute of Public Health, in Denmark. For this work I was mentored by Professor in anthropology Tine Tjørnhøj-Thomsen. To assess current rates of, barriers and facilitators to cardiopulmonary resuscitation training of students in Denmark (mandatory by law), I conducted a national survey among principals and teachers in secondary schools and collected information from 63% of all eligible schools in the country. Finally, to better understand how lay persons perceive performing resuscitation, I have interviewed and collected data from more than 130 lay persons who attempted resuscitation. My Ph.D. thesis was based on 4 original papers, 2 of which have been published in Circulation. During my Ph.D. program I served as a senior consultant for the Danish AED network, the first nationwide AED registry in the world.
During my fellowship at Duke Clinical Research Institute I focused most of my attention on the HeartRescue quality improvement program which provided me with the opportunity to gain an extensive understanding of cardiac arrest care and patient outcomes in the US
After relocating to Denmark, I initiated my internal medicine/cardiology training and continue to do research as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Emergency Medical Services and Herlev and Gentofte Hospital, Copenhagen University, Denmark. I serve on the steering committees of two clinical trials of community initiatives to improve outcomes in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
