I graduated, 2011, in Tanatological, Cytological and Pathological Anatomy at Escola Superior de Saúde do Vale do Sousa (ESSVS-CESPU) which activity is essentially laboratorial, contributing to the prevention, screening, prognosis and diagnosis. Afterward I did some extracurricular courses to obtain depth knowledge in Cytopathology (2 ECTS), Macroscopy (3 ECTS) and Forensic Medicine. In 2012, I attended the Master in Molecular Genetics at the University of Minho (Centre of Molecular and Environmental Biology - CBMA) with a thesis entitled “Analysis of the variability of gene expression in Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilms” focused in RNA extraction optimization, based on the development of a novel method to decrease RNA extraction variability in S. epidermidis biofilms, with mark of 18/20. During my two years of specialization I worked in two different projects (Centre of Biological Engineering) and they gave me a precious knowledge and experience in Molecular Biology/ Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. My first project was “The role of Gardnerella vaginalis in the presence of mixed biofilms in Bacterial Vaginosis cases” under the supervision of the project principal investigator Nuno Cerca, where was made the phenotypic characterization of vaginal isolates by susceptibility tests. The second project was “Molecular interactions between Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilms and the immune system of Mus Musculus”, under supervision of the previous principal investigator mentioned. The main responsibilities were to determine the variability in gene expression of S. epidermidis biofilms. During these projects I was co-author in several papers and posters, as well as first author in a paper and two posters.
After this, I joined in 2015 in Comparative Endocrinology and Integrative Biology (CEIB) at Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR), on the project “New regulator puberty on fish?” where I studied the localization of GAL/GALRs in female and male European seabass tissues by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization (ISH), under supervision of the project principal investigator Patrícia Pinto. In the meantime, I worked on the project "Germ Cell regulation" which have characterized the germ cell migration and development in a specific European seabass specific albino strain using whole mount in situ hybridization (WISH) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), under the supervision of the project principal investigator Rute Martins. Until my PhD fellow, I worked (at CCMAR) on the project "Sustainable production of high quality aquaculture fish using innovative tools and production strategies and integrating novel processing methods and cold chain management " where the main goal is characterizing male and female candidates with molecular markers to distinguish gender at early ages of European seabass using molecular tools, including suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH), real-time qPCR and in situ hybridization under the supervision of Doctor Adelino Canário and Doctor Deborah Power. I finished my PhD in 2021 in Biological Sciences in University of Algarve with specialization in Genetic, Genomic and Evolution with a thesis entitled "Evolution of the immune system in antarctic notothenids." After my PhD fellowship, I started on a new project "SEAFOODQual-Application of Innovative and Sustainable Technologies for Processing and Quality Monitoring of Sea Food Products" between 2021 until 2022 in CEIB group from CCMAR. I finished my PhD in 2022 in Biological Sciences in University of Algarve with specialization in Genetic, Genomic and Evolution with a thesis entitled "Evolution of the immune system in antarctic notothenids". Currently, I have a Post-Doctoral fellowship under the project "BiDiRisk-Biomarker discovery for risk assessment in the deep sea" in University of Algarve - Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA).
