Carlos Ruiz Cánovas

Carlos Ruiz Cánovas is a postdoctoral researcher at Department of Geology University of Huelva. B.Sc. (2000) in Environmental Sciences and Ph.D (2008) in Earth Sciences at University of Huelva. His research focused on acid mine drainage (AMD) processes and factors controlling metal mobility in aqueous environments. He was awarded with the Juan de la Cierva national research subprogram and joined in 2010 at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA) belonging to CSIC. During his stay at IDAEA his research focused on sulphate reduction processes in sediments from reservoirs affected by AMD and hydrochemical modeling in systems affected by metal pollution. He has participated in 15 scientific projects, including International and European-level projects as well as Spanish. He is currently leading the project “Optimization techniques for recovery of critical raw materials from mine wastes” financed by the European Union and the Andalusian Knowledgement Agency. He has taught several courses on Geochemistry at International University of Andalucía (UNIA). He is currently working at the Institute of Separative Chemistry of Marcoule (ICSM) as guest researcher.
