个人简介
Carlos Chancay Cedeño holds a Bachelor (BA) degree in education sciences, with an English major from Universidad Técnica de Manabí (UTM) and a master degree in pedagogy from Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL), both in Ecuador. In 2018, he finished his PhD studies at Universidad Autónoma de Madríd, getting a “Cum Laude” award for this research about the intercultural competence of EFL teachers in Ecuador. He is finishing a master degree in teaching English as a foreign language at Universidad Internacional de la Rioja (Spain).
During his career as an EFL teacher, he has worked in numerous private schools. In addition, Carlos has been a teacher of listening and speaking at the UTPL and a teacher of English at Universidad Estatal del Sur de Manabí. Since 2010, he has been part of the UTM EFL teachers staff. There, Carlos has coordinated projects related to the community in the School of Languages and Linguistics. He also coordinated the Department of Pedagogical Practicum of the Faculty of Philosophy, Literature and Science of Education. He was also vice-dean of the School of Arts, coordinator of the department of Didactic and the department of National and Foreign Languages. During 4 months (February- May 2022) he was the dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Literature and Science of Education
During all this time he has been training EFL teachers in the School of Languages and Linguistics where he has taught subjects such as general English, general didactics, contemporary pedagogy, curricular design, linguistics and ICT in EFL teaching and academic writing, research methodolgy and EFL didactic.
In 2015 he obtained a scholarship from the Secretaria de Educación Superior, Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (SENESCYT) of Ecuador to do doctoral studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. The doctoral research was carried out in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, in the Department of Philology and its Teaching, with the research line of Intercultural Competence.
In addition, Carlos collaborates in the research group called Discourse Analysis and Intercultural Communication (DAIC) and is a member of TESOL, TESOL-Spain and partner of Asociación Española de Lingüística Aplicada (AESLA) and the research group DAIC of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
In 2017, Carlos obtained from Atlas.ti the Junior Trainer Certification to teach how to use this software of qualitative data analysis.
His research interest areas are: intercultural competence in EFL classrooms, b-learning, reading and writing genres and qualitative data analysis with Atlas.ti applied for language discourse and teaching literature in EFL classrooms.
