Bio
Carla S. Cardoso has a degree in Biology (Faculty of Sciences U.Porto) and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Abel Salazar Institute for Biomedical Sciences, U.Porto).
Presently is Assistant Professor at the School of Criminology, Faculty of Law, University of Porto, and responsible for the Laboratory of the School of Criminology. She teaches at the undergraduate and master's degree in criminology several curricular units, namely quantitative criminology, experimental criminology, forensic sciences and deviant behavior sciences. In addition, she supervise master and PhD thesis in Criminology.
Her research interests are: urban security and plural policing, delinquent and antissocial behavior in a biosocial perspective and experimental criminology. In the field of urban security she has been developed evaluation studies of intervention measures in the urban context. In addition, she has been conducting studies on fear of crime, crime prevention, urban security management and security governance in a comparative perspective.
On the study of antisocial and delinquent behavior, the main focus are in the study of the relationship between self-control, morality and contextual variables on delinquent behavior. This research line has also an intervention component, developed in the School of Criminology within a European project (OutInOUT) and within the Community Services.
She has participated in several research projects. Please note some of them:
- Researcher at the Project OUTinOUT, project supported by the European Commission under the Criminal Justice Program. This project is a partnership between Italy, Spain, Malta and Portugal. (2012-2014)
- Participation on the Program Justice, Education and Sociability, a research-action program to prevent antisocial behavior in schools. (From 2011 until presente)
- Co-Scientific Coordination of the Observatory of Security and the Impact of Intervention Measures of the Porto city. (coordinator C da Agra).
- Participation on the Observatory of Juvenile Delinquency of the School of Criminology (coordinator C da Agra).
- Participation as researcher of the School of Criminology on the Coordination Action CRIMPREV - Assessing Deviance, Crime and Prevention in Europe (6th Framework Programme on Research, Technological Development and Demonstration). This program was under the coordination of GERN (Groupe Européen de Recherches sur les Normativités), IAHCCJ (International Association for the History of Crime and Criminal Justice) and; EFUS (European Fórum on Urban Safety).
