Bio
Dr. Pinkert is currently interim Vice President for Research at Tennessee Technological University, and professor emeritus at Auburn University. Previously, he served at the University of Alabama (UA) as Vice President for Research and Economic Development and as a tenured Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences (2013-18).
He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. His research revolved around animal modeling; developing enabling technologies for the engineering of nuclear and mitochondrial genomes, including strategies to address developmental and metabolic diseases
.
His research was funded by NIH, USDA, NSF, foundations and industry. He served as a journal editor, was a Sigma Xi national lecturer, and a recipient of the 1997 Doerenkamp-Zbinden Foundation Research Prize. He was elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2011.
