Bio
Professor Candy McCabe PhD RGN
Candy McCabe is a Professor of Clinical Research and Practice at the University of the West of England, Bristol and Head of Education and Research at Dorothy House Hospice, UK. She is a previous Florence Nightingale Foundation Chair in Clinical Nursing Practice Research (2014-2021) and NIHR Career Development Fellow (2009-2014). She trained as a nurse at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London and completed her higher degrees at the University of Bath, Bath, UK. After working in a variety of specialties including ward based and research work she moved to the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (RNHRD), Bath in the mid- 90’s. Since this time her research and clinical interests directly relate to increasing our understanding of the mechanisms and potential therapies for those with chronic unexplained pain, particularly that of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and other neuropathic pain conditions. Since joining Dorothy House Hospice in 2019, Candy's research has extended into Palliative and End of Life Care Research, and for those with life limiting conditions. Candy has established and lead national NHS clinical services for those with CRPS and for those suffering with late effects from radiotherapy following treatment for breast cancer.
