Career Trajectory
Bio
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE: march '93 /december '95: neuropathology in in-vivo and in vitro experimental models (Lab. of Prof. Scalabrino, General Pathology Inst., School of Medicine, University of Milano. From January '96 Neurobiology studies at University of Milano (Prof. Ferrarese), Since 2000 at Univ. of Study Milano-Bicocca School of Medicine, she develops studies of molecular biology, cellular cultures and neurochemistry about neurodegenerative disorders. At the end of the 90s, she worked with Prof. J Rothstein (NIH, “J. Hopkins” University) for her studies about glutamate transporters. She collaborates with Prof. Tredici, Head of Dept., about morphological studies in C.N.S. and P.N.S. She cooperated to research teams (IRCCS "E. Medea " Bosisio Parini, Fondazione Pro Juventute "Don C. Gnocchi" of Milano and "M. Negri" Institute) about neurochemistry and neuroimmunology studies on epileptic, neuropsychiatric, Stroke and MS patients. She joined in National project on Alzheimer’s disease, in collaboration with Pharmacology Inst. of Univ. of Milano (Prof. Cattabeni, Prof. Di Luca) and with different research teams of Italian Interdisciplinary Network in AD (ITINAD). Now she studies on the molecular regulation of specific signal transduction pathways, following treatment with oxidant and antioxidants substances, Abeta and glutamate cell growth and differentiation factors (ac. retinal and NGF) in ex vivo human and cellular models of neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's and Parkinson's). She is involving in studies of the glutamatergic system settings in human peripheral models of MS, in collaboration with Dr. Gironi CAM Monza and IRCCS Don Gnocchi. She studies the glutamatergic system in ex vivo animal models of peripheral nervous system in basal conditions and multiple sclerosis (EAE), in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Cavaletti (Univ. Milano-Bicocca). She collaborates with Dr Perseghin (hematology department) and Dr. Villa (department of vascular surgery), Hospital S. Gerardo-Monza, to study the molecular pathways of platelet-gel: “molecular mechanisms and therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of ulcers skin”. She’s performing studies about glutamate excitotoxicity, amyloid-beta oligomers role and MAPK signaling in ex vivo peripheral models and in in vitro CNS models to study Alzheimer disease; studying these pathways and mechanisms in iPs-derived neurons to better characterize their involvement in neuronal plasticity.
Since 2001 member of FENS and of SINS. Since November 2015 member on Editorial Board of Alzheimer’s & Parkinson's Disease Journal. She is a peer-reviewer of Dove Medical Press journals for Clinical Interventions in Aging, Internat J of Nanomedicine, Nanotechnology, Science and Applications and Research and Reports in Biology. Research funds: She participates in several scientific projects funded by the UE ("Nanoparticles" 2008-20123, NAD; Join programme neurodegenerative disease researches JPND 2011-2015), and the Ministry of Health (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009), and of the Ministry of University and Research (COFIN-PRIN 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, FIRB project “Genopolis” 2003, Cluster ALISEI-“IVASCOMAR” 2013-2017) aimed on AD and neurodegenerative diseases, and Lombardy region "Project Blood" biennial (2011-2013), collaborating with the PI and the head of research unit to coordinate the activities of the project and the scientific products. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE in II INTERNATIONAL MEETING OF THE MILAN CENTER FOR NEUROSCIENCE “PREDICTION AND PREVENTION OF DEMENTIA: NEW HOPE” MILAN, JULY6-8, 2016
TEACHING ACTIVITY: Assistant prof of “Board of Qualification in Extrapyramidal Diseases” Institute of Biomedical Science, School of Medicine, University of Milano, June 1998 and of Neurobiology course, School of Medicine, University of Milano/University of Milano-Bicocca (since 1998-now). Prof of Neurobiology and experimental models, School of Medicine, Degree in Medical Biotechnologies, (a.a. 2004-2005), University of Milano –Bicocca. Tutor for medical doctors, resident in Neurology, biological and pharmacological students to develop studies in Neuroscience. Visiting lecturer in Neurobiology/Neuroscience at School of Medicine, University of Milano-Bicocca (2015-today)
Fellowships and Invited Speakers: Study Fellow a.a. 1989/90 (University of Milano). 1999:"DE VISART ‘94/’95" for advancing in neuro-psyco-phathological science (University of Milano). SINS for "giovani e brillanti neuroscienziati" (FENS Brighton, June 2000). SINS for "young neuroscientists" (FENS Paris, July 2002) SINFP for “ Neuroscience Research” (SINFP di Milano, July 2002) 2002: National Awards “Galletti Foundation” for the best Residence or Doctorate thesis in neurodegenerative pathologies (University of Bologna).
