I sub-specialised in interventional cardiology and cardiac CT-angiography at the Thorax Centre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and stayed on as staff member and University Medical Specialist for several years. I became interested in working with bioengineers to developing clinically relevant research concept and in working with Industry partners in translating novel research into clinical practice focusing on medical devices and imaging technologies including bio-reabsorbable scaffolds, trans-catheter aortic valve implantation and intra-coronary imaging with optical coherence tomography (OCT). Two image analysis approached that I has helped to conceptualise are FDA approved and widely used, one of which is considered the industry standard.

Since moving to Australia 6 years ago I have established the use of novel imaging approaches to atherosclerosis including the use of optical coherence tomography and 18F-Fluoride PET in Western Australia. My research aim has been to improve risk stratification and prevention of cardiovascular disease in high-risk populations. My group has been testing novel approaches to prevent arterial calcification and we are now working on clinical translation.

My great passion, apart from preventing cardiovascular disease, is to train the next generation of researchers and doctors.
