Bio
Graduate in Pharmacy (University of Santiago de Compostela, USC), Specialist in Clinical Microbiology (U. H. Marqués de Valdecilla), scholar of the Health Research Institute Valdecilla for a stay in the Department of Immunology of the U. Medical Center of Groningen (Holland). PhD in Biology , professor of the third cycle and master´s degree at the Faculty of Sciences (U. of Vigo), collaborating tutor in Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine (USC). I have obtained a scholarship for the extension of studies in the Infectious Disease Department of the San Francisco General Hospital (UCSF) from Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
I has been working in the Microbiology laboratory since 1993, therefore my clinical experience is doubtless and it has been very helpful for the good progress of the diferent projects. My matters of interest have been the epidemiological markers and resistance mechanisms in different bacteria, and the study of virulence factors and bacterial interactions in biofilms. Regarding she is collaborating in research projects with the school of industrial engineers about new biomaterials and its bactericidal and antibiofilm capacity.
In 2018 I was appointed the coordinator of the Sexual Transmitted Infections (STIs) and reproductive health department of the Microbiology Laboratory in the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Vigo (CHUVI). In view of a deep increase of STIs in our health area, one of my goals is the creation of a STIs clinic adressed by a multididciplinary team to follow, prevent and control STIs. My biggest motivation is finding a novel strategy to fight against gonorrhoea using a recombinant lactic acid bacteria and reverse vaccinology. To carry out this study, our research group obtained a project from Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology entitle "Design of probiotic bacteria as antigenic vectors: novel immunization strategy against Neisseria gonorrhoneae".
As well, I am a member of different study groups:
-STIs Workgroup (Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology). This group study the prevalence of STIs in Spain and the emergence of antimicrobial resistances.
--Chlamydia Workgroup (Health Consellería, Galicia). Team composed by Clinical Microbiologists and Preventivists to follow, prevent and control Chlamydia infection.
-Collaboration with the Sexual Transmitted Infection Clinic (CHUVI) for the diagnostic of STIs in different anatomical localizations in men that have sex with men.
-Papiloma virus Workgroup (GECAO) (Health Consellería, Galicia). Multidisciplinary team to follow the prevalence of human papilloma serotypes after vaccination campaign.
-Anogenital cancer study group (CHUVI). Multidisciplinar group composed by microbiologists, general surgeons and infectologists that study an alternative diagnostic of anal dysplasia.
