个人简介
Christiane Koch studied physics at the Humboldt University Berlin in the 1990s and, for one year at the University of Texas at Austin, thanks to a Fulbright scholarship. Originally inspired to pursue physics by chaos theory, she eventually made her way into quantum physics, via a brief stint in quantum chaos (for her Diplomarbeit/Master's thesis), as a PhD student at the Fritz-Haber-Institute Berlin where she applied open quantum systems' theory to a problem in surface science (femtosecond laser-induced desorption). This project officially required "willingness to travel", and Christiane happily commuted between Berlin and Jerusalem where Ronnie Kosloff at the Hebrew University became her second PhD mentor. Discouraged by the large time lag between experiment and theory in surface science at the time as well as the requirement to use semiclassical and statistical methods rather than rigorous quantum dynamics, Christiane switched gears for her postdoc, starting to work on coherent control of cold collisions and photoassociation with Francoise Masnou at Laboratoire Aim'e Cotton in Orsay near Paris and Ronnie Kosloff in Jerusalem in 2003. At about that time, Christiane realized that the molecular physics methods that she had learned to master could also be useful for quantum information science. So, when returning to Germany in 2006 to lead a DFG-funded Emmy Noether research group (benefiting from a programme intended to give more independence to junior scientists), she started to work in parallel on coherent control in molecular physics and in quantum information science. When Christiane became a professor of theoretical physics at the Universität Kassel in 2010, she was proud to have achieved this without going through the traditional German habilitation process. Her current research interests can still be roughly separated into molecular physics and quantum information science, with focuses on chiral molecules and cold and controlled reactions on one hand and optimal control for quantum computing and quantum sensing on the other hand. Since October 2019, Christiane holds a professorship at the Freie Universität Berlin.
