I have been conducted several research projects at the intersection of inorganic chemistry, materials science, and electrochemistry to develop and characterize materials for solar energy conversion, energy storage and electrolysis.
In my doctoral dissertation work, we have presented structure-activity relation by detailed investigations on mesoporous and 2-D metal oxides and metal sulfides electrocatalyst and their HER and OER activities. We first demonstrated a facile one-step synthesis protocol to prepare mesoporous metal oxide/sulfide thin films via a novel soft templating method. We further investigated their activities toward HER and OER and stabilities by using electrochemical tests (LSV, EIS, CV, CA and etc.) with combination of DEMS, XPS, XRD, Raman and FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM/EDX and TEM/STEM analysis. In collaboration with TÜPRAŞ , we have further tested our some electrodes in the hand-made prototype of H2S electrolyser to replace the sulfur recovery process (Claus process) of the refineries. Prior to Koç University, my master studies were completed under the guidance of Professor Dr. Omer Dag in the Department of Chemistry at the Bilkent University. We developed the molten salt self-assembly (MASA) protocol enabling the production of various metal oxide-metal chalcogenite composite thin films for various energy applications. At present, results from my studies led to five peer-reviewed publications, where two additional manuscripts are in progress and two patents.
In addition to current my doctoral pursuit, I have attended the PhD program under supervision of Prof. Dr. Stephen O’brien at City College of New York University. My research studies focused on the surfactant-assisted liquid exfoliation of layered and nonlayered materials such as graphite, MoS2 and MnO2 and their applications as electrodes on supercapacitors. Our success has advanced the conversion efficiency five times compared to literature in order to attain higher concentrated aqueous 2-D suspensions.
In my professional job, I had managed the projects, plans and strategies, mainly focused green hydrogen, carbon capture and utilization, H2S electrolysis, electrochemical CO2 reduction to alcohols (power to x), next generation solar cell (perovskites) and biofuels to prepare Tüpraş refineries for a net-zero strategy. In this direction, my main roles include but are not limited to the following:
-Managing green hydrogen projects (MW scale) successfully through project gates, being responsible for the complete project: time, scope and budgets, etc.
-Preparing strategies for TÜPRAŞ sustainable roadmap to reach net-zero carbon emissions.
-Preparing documents related to government hydrogen policies for Tüpraş.
-Improving our technical competence and infrastructure regarding renewable energy technologies.
-Bringing new technologies to Tüpraş through self-funding projects.
Currently, I joined the Tecnalia Hydrogen technologies as a senior researchers. I am conducting the projects on the electrolysis research line.
