Christopher Mcguffey

Christopher McGuffey (Member, IEEE) received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in nuclear engineering and radiological sciences from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA, in 2009 and 2011, respectively, specializing in wakefield acceleration of electrons using femtosecond-class lasers. He pursued particle beam creation with picosecond-class lasers as a Post-Doctoral Scholar at the University of California at San Diego, La Jolla, CA, USA, where he continued to work for nine years, becoming an Associate Project Scientist and a PI. He recently joined the Inertial Fusion Technology Division, General Atomics Corporation, San Diego, CA, USA. He has expertise in chirped-pulse amplified lasers, intense particle beams, and spectroscopy of warm, dense plasmas. He has coauthored over 60 articles in refereed journals, including Nature Physics, Physics of Plasmas, and Physical Review Letters. Dr. McGuffey has engaged in the Scientific High Energy-Density Plasma Community, serving as the High Energy Density Science Association Chair, and directing the High Energy Density Science Summer School three times.
