Bio
Cyril Godard was awarded his PhD in 2004 at the University of York, UK, under the supervision of Prof. R. Perutz and Prof. S. Duckett working on the photochemical synthesis and characterisation of organometallic complexes. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Prof. Duckett for 2 years studying reaction mechanisms by NMR spectroscopy using Para-Hydrogen Induced Polarisation techniques in the context of an industrial project (SASOL).
He incorporated the group of Prof. Carmen Claver in 2005 as postdoctoral researcher in the framework of an European project. Later, he obtained a Juan de la Cierva contract, followed by a Ramon y Cajal contract in the same group at the URV. In 2017, he obtained a temporary associate professor position and in 2018, he became associate professor at the URV.
Over the last 10 years, CG has mainly working in selective catalysis using organometallic complexes and metallic nanoparticles as catalysts. In homogeneous catalysis, his research focused on the design and application of chiral molecular catalysts for production of fine chemicals, ranging from the synthesis of ligands to the study of reaction mechanisms and optimisation of catalysts performance. Over the last years, CG has also developed well-defined metallic nanocatalysts for reactions such as arene hydrogenation, alkyne semi-hydrogenation, Fischer-Trospch, H/D exchange reactions, etc… In this latter field, he has mainly focused on the use of ligands as stabilizing agents to fine-tune the selectivity of this type of catalysts.
