个人简介
I am an engineer and scientist with 20 years of research, teaching and leadership experience, both at the Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées (France) and at The University of Western Australia. My research interest covers the broad spectrum of ocean engineering with a strong focus over the last ten years on marine renewable energy across all aspects of engineering, environmental impacts, policy, and regulations. I have a demonstrated track record of research excellence, entrepreneurship, and leadership in large multidisciplinary initiatives, first creating and leading the National Geotechnical Centrifuge Facility, a world leader in physical modelling, then leading the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems, consolidating its world leading position through a time of significant changes and challenges, and more recently creating Marine Energy Research Australia, a multidisciplinary research centre supporting the ocean renewable energy industry, while leading the Oceans Graduate School, a 120+ multidisciplinary research group in ocean engineering. My ethos is strongly governed by a sense of collegiality, accountability, and support of my peers. Over the years, I have developed a network of partnership across a wide range of stakeholders, including industry, government, regulatory body, and academic institutions.
My research and service outcomes have been disseminated via 2 books, 2 book chapters, 1 patent, 236 refereed journal and conference papers (112 journals – 6 prize-winning and 3 invited – 124 conferences – 11 keynotes) and 90 research reports for industry and research bodies, with a wide impact on engineering practice. I have raised alone or with colleagues over $60M of research funding, creating one research centre, one national experimental facility and now leading one of the world leading research group in Ocean Engineering and Science.
My teaching portfolio includes geomechanics and geotechnical engineering undergraduate units from 1st to 5th year and the supervision of 26 undergraduate projects, 4 Master students and 24 PhD students.
