个人简介
Carolyn qualified as a Physiotherapist from Cardiff University in 1992. Her early working career was based in the NHS, specialising in the Neurological field in 1994. Carolyn gained vast clinical experience in both adult and Paediatric Neurological conditions, working as a Senior Physiotherapist.
Seeking a new challenge, Carolyn entered the academic world in 2000. Initially she worked as a Link Lecturer at the University of the West of England and by 2002 embarked on a career as a research fellow at the University of Southampton.
The various studies Carolyn has worked on in Southampton have focused on Parkinson’s disease and Stroke. These studies include:
Exsart: a blinded RCT looking at exercise to reduce falls in Parkinson's Disease.
STARR: a longitudinal study, following Stroke subjects for three years post Stroke.
Victhom Human Bionics: a project for the implanting of a foot drop device in people with Stroke.
PDD Falls: a study looking at people with Parkinsons with cognitive problems and experiencing falls.
PD Dance: a feasibility RCT evaluating the benefits of partnered Ballroom Dancing for people with Parkinsons
Throughout her research career Carolyn has always maintained a private caseload of Neurological patients. She feels this is essential to maintain her own clinical skills and to keep up to date with changes in the clinical setting, thus enabling research to be relevant and applicable.
