Carlos del Rio, MD, is the Hubert Professor and chair of the Department of Global Health at the Rollins School of Public Health, and professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases for the School of Medicine. He is also co-director of the Emory Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and co-principal investigator of the Emory-CDC HIV Clinical Trials Unit. Dr. del Rio is a native of Mexico, where he attended the medical school at Universidad La Salle. He completed Internal Medicin and Infectious Diseases residencies at Emory University. From 1992-1996, Dr. del Rio served as the executive director of the National AIDS Council of Mexico, which is the federal agency of the Mexican Government responsible for AIDS policy. Dr. del Rio returned to Emory in 1996 and has since held clinical, education and administrative roles and has built an excellent research program, largely based at Grady Memorial Hospital.
