Doctorate (PhD) in Biology in June 1989 (Cum laude), Dr Cuadrado started her scientific career (1981) working in Department of Genetics-UCM. During her first public granted period, she was focused on the Analysis of genetic control of meiotic pairing in grasses. In 1989 she joined the Food Technology Department of the INIA (Madrid) where she got several competitive public grants and public contracts reinforcing her position under her topics of expertise. The applicant carried out a postdoctoral stay at the RRI (Aberdeen, UK) funded by MEC Training Program for PhD Abroad, focused in the purification and nutritional evaluation of the lentil lectin. Since 2001, she is Senior Researcher at the Food Technology Department of INIA. She has stated in several foreign research centres: Central Food Research (Budapest, 1996), RRI (Aberdeen, 1997) and USDA-ARS (New Orleans, USA) as Visiting Scientist, funded by OECD (January-July, 2015). Nowadays, Dr Cuadrado is leader of the Plant Food Quality and Safety group of the Food Technology Department of INIA-CSIC and her main research interests are focused on to produce safe, higher quality and healthier foods, adapted to new consumption habits, making the most of existing resources and with the least possible generation of contaminants. Her present research lines are: a) Plant food allergens (legumes and nuts): Reduction of the allergenic potential through processing. Proteomic and genomic analysis. Detection of nuts allergens by RT-PCR and biosensors in processed foods. b) Nutritional and bioactive compounds of plant foods. Nutritional evaluation in monogastric animals. Application of bioprocesses and technological processes to obtain new formulations and novel foods of high nutritional quality and human health benefits.
Her research activities have resulted in 101 SCI articles, 61 of them published in Q1 (42 first Decile) and 21 in Q2, 11 articles in non-SCI journals and 34 book chapters (10 of them in Royal Society of Chemistry, Springer, EAAP) being personally invited to contribute in 5 of them. Privileged position of authorship being 1st, 2nd and corresponding author in 60 % of them (Scopus/Wos index h=34/33). Dr Cuadrado shares 127 communications in scientific congresses (93 international/34 national), 38 oral presentations including 8 as invited plenary speaker. She has participated in 56 R + D + i research projects (national and international) and in 10 acting as coordinator (IP). Her research independency and autonomy to get public funds has been clearly reflected (equivalent to 800.000 €). She has been awarded 5 six-year terms (Ss) and 6 five-year terms (Qs). She have very productive scientific collaborations with national and international groups as: Drs JF Crespo and B Cabanillas (HU 12 Octubre, Madrid), Dr C Mills (U Manchester, UK), Dr S Maleki (ARS-USDA, New Orleans, USA), Drs JM Pingarrón and S. Campuzano (Analytical Chemistry Dept, UCM, Madrid), Dr N Novak (U Bonn, Germany), Dr K Allaf (U La Rochelle, France), Dr J Haddad (U Lebanese, Lebanon), Dr JM Álvarez (UDLA &USFQ, Ecuador), Allergies Service from: HU La Princesa, Madrid; HU de Cruces, Barakaldo; Fundación J Diaz, Madrid; HU La Paz, Madrid; HU Guadalajara.
Her collaboration with industry and the private sector has been through 12 technological contracts (5 acting as coordinator). Technical expert for ACERTA since 2016. Her contribution to society through public institutions and other end users of research has been as Member State Expert of the Scientific Network for the Risk Assessment of GMOs in EU of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) since 2010, for the risk assessment of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food (Food / Feed). She is also Supporting Scientist of the European Plant Scientific Organization (EPSO) in the Food / Feed area since 2005. Member of the International Advisory Scientific Committee of The Food Factor I Conference (2016) and Food Factor II Conference (2018). Member of Scientific Commitee of Agencia Española de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutrición AESAN (2021).
She has directed two doctoral theses and 12 master or final degree projects. She holds the ANECA accreditation as Professor at the University and has been teaching Genetics as Associate Professor (Biology Degree, Complutense University, 2018-2021). Director and professor of course "Biotechnology in the Agrifood Company" of the Complutense Summer School for Postgraduates (2013/14 and 2016/17). Ad Hoc Reviewer of Funding Organizations (AEI, MAPAMA, ANPCYT from Argentina, CONACYT from Mexico, UDLA from Ecuador, etc). Reviewer of scientific journals (366 reviews verified by Publons, Top reviewer Award 2018, 2019). Editorial Board Member of Food Research International. Editorial Board Member of Molecules (MDPI Basel Switzerland). Member of the Editorial Board (Section Editor in Chief) of Allergies (MDPI, Basel Switzerland). Guest Editor of Special Issues for Foods (MDPI), Molecules and Allergies (MDPI).
