Bio
I am a biologist from the University of Buenos Aires. After obtaining my Ph.D. in Science in 1992, I moved to France where I completed postdoctoral training in Renal Physiology at the University of Paris, with a postdoctoral fellowship from INSERM. In 1997, I returned to Argentina and joined the Institute of Physiology and Biophysics (IFIBIO Houssay) as the Head of the Biomembranes Lab. The institute is located in the School of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and is affiliated with both the UBA and the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET). Currently, I am a Principal Investigator at CONICET and a Regular Professor of Physiology at the School of Medicine (UBA). My research focuses on the role of water channel proteins, called aquaporins (AQPs), in the water homeostasis of living organisms, both in health and disease, with direct correlations in clinical medicine. The study of AQPs was an area of significant importance at the national and worldwide level, as highlighted by the Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to its discoverer in 2003.
