Leo Cornelius Bollheimer was born in Karlsruhe, Germany in 1967. He graduated in medicine with the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität, Heidelberg, Germany, in 1995, followed by a Postdoctoral fellowship in experimental diabetology with Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA and Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, TX, USA. In 1997, he continued his clinical training with the University Hospital of Regensburg where he was appointed a Senior Lecturer and attending Physician in 2004. He passed the board-certifications in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology & Diabetology, and in Geriatric Medicine. In 2011, he was appointed a Professor of internal medicine (geriatrics) with Friedrich-Alexander-Universität, Erlangen, Germany and served in parallel as the Vice-Director of internal medicine and geriatrics with St. John of God Hospital, Regensburg, Germany. In 2016, he was the Chair of Geriatric Medicine with RWTH Aachen University and has been appointed the Director of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics with the Franziskushospital Aachen. He is an Associate Editor for the Zeitschrift für Gerontologie und Geriatrie and a member of the editorial board of European Review of Aging and Physical Activity. In 2011, he became a Fellow of the European Academy of Medicine of Ageing.
