Bio
Bruno Sena da Fonseca obtained his Post-Bologna and Master’s Degrees in Geological Engineering at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, the school of engineering of the New University of Lisbon (earned the award of best Master’s student).
He received his Ph.D (approved with distinction and honour) in Civil Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, the school of engineering of the University of Lisbon (ULisboa) on a thesis, titled “Development of new consolidation products for porous carbonate stones”.
Bruno Sena da Fonseca is member of Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE), a Research Unit of the ULisboa and Principal Investigator (PI) of GreenMAP project (PTDC/ECI-EGC/2519/2020).
His recent research activities are focused in the conservation of built heritage and in the development and test of novel consolidation products for stone substrates.
Previous research activities were developed within the field of construction materials as well, either through the development of innovative materials and analysis/study and application of pioneering techniques to study diverse construction materials properties. Sustainable ceramic materials, degradation of cementitious materials, materials for concrete reinforcement (steel and FRP) and conservation of stone materials are research topics addressed by the researcher.
Bruno Sena da Fonseca has 29 publications in high-level International Journals (19 as first and corresponding author), 1 book chapter (first author) and several communications in conferences.
He is member of the Editorial Board of Buildings (as Topic Editor) and has collaborated with several high-level International Journals by reviewing ~50 manuscripts.
His experience also comprise the membership of PhD thesis advisory committee, supervision of MSc and PhD students (9 and 1, respectively), jury of academic degrees and jury of calls for individual grants. He has been involved in several activities; its collaboration in the organization of the European Corrosion Congress – EUROCORR 2013 (Estoril, Portugal) and its participation in the local organizing committee of COST Action “Self-healing as preventive repair for concrete structures” 2018 (Lisbon, Portugal) are examples.
He is associate of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and member of Ordem dos Engenheiros (Portuguese Engineers Association).
