Research Interests
A) Basic investigation: Brain injury is characterized by loss and neuronal dysfunction, accompanied by neuroinflammation and increased formation of new neurons (neurogenesis). However, the phenomenon of injury-induced neurogenesis is far from efficient. One of my interests is to understand how the inflammatory microenvironment of the brain regulates the neurogenic response.
B) Clinical research: The benefits of physical exercise (PE) are now recognized. Nevertheless, we live in a society where sedentarism is the most common behavior. One of my interests lies in the development of strategies that increase adherence to the regular practice of PE and healthy eating as a way of preventing chronic diseases. Another concern lies in a more basic investigation, particularly of the mechanisms underlying the clinical benefits of PE.
