个人简介
Bruno Alexandre studied Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon (FCUL), where he graduated in 2004. The research dissertation for graduation in Chemistry "Studies in Cellular Respiration: Proteomics on Alternative Substrates” was performed in Institute for Applied Science and Technology (ICAT) under the supervision of Prof. Belarmino Barata.
In 2012 he obtained his PhD in Biology (Molecular Biology) from FCUL under supervision of Dr. Deborah Penque from the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge (INSA) and Prof. Ana Crespo from FCUL, and co-supervision of Prof. Thomas P. Conrads at the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology, University of Pittsburgh, where a major portion of the PhD thesis was conducted.
Still in 2012, he joined INSA to collaborate in the FCT-Harvard Medical School Program project “Obstructive sleep apnea and associated metabolic/cardiovascular disorders: understanding mechanisms towards early diagnosis and prognosis prediction” as a Post-Doc Fellow.
In 2013, he moved to the Institute for Experimental and Technological Biology (iBET) as a Post-Doc Fellow in the Genomics and Plant Stress (GPlantS) Unit, under the supervision of Dr. Isabel Abreu and Prof. Margarida Oliveira. In 2017, he moved to iBET's sister institution, Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB), but he was still kept at the GPlantS Unit, working in the Proteome Regulation in Plants Lab. His research interests included the development of new MS-based methodologies for the identification of novel post-translational modifications from maize plants extracts, and quantification, such as SWATH-MS, making use of the capabilities of the Sciex TripleTOF 6600. He also participated in and coordinated proteomics-related tasks for several projects running in the lab.
As a result of Dr. Alexandre's skills in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, he moved to the Mass Spectrometry Unit (UniMS) at iBET. His work includes the development of sample preparation techniques and the use of complementary state-of-the-art applications on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS).
