Bio
Professor Bronwyn Carlson is Head of the Department of Indigenous Studies at Macquarie University. She completed her PhD in 2012 and her thesis was awarded the prestigious W.E.H Stanner Award administered by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS). In 2016 her book, The Politics of Identity: Who Counts as Aboriginal Today? was published by Aboriginal Studies Press. Bronwyn was awarded three solo consecutive Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Indigenous grants. The first in 2013 for her research on Aboriginal identity and community online on social media and the second in 2016 for her research on Indigenous help-seeking on social media and her third in 2019 for research on violence online. She has been acknowledged by the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia for her outstanding achievements as an Early Career Researcher in Sociology. In 2020 she was elected as a Fellow with The Australian Academy of the Humanities. She is the founding and managing editor of the Journal of Global Indigeneity and the Director of the Centre for Global Indigenous Futures.
