个人简介
I attended Illinois State University for my BS in Biology ('99) and MS in Biotechnology ('02). My thesis was mentored by Dr. Anthony Otsuka and focused on a biochemical localization of the cell adhesion molecule unc-44 in C. elegans. I obtained my Ph.D. in MCDB&G at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities mentored by Drs. Stephen C. Ekker and Lisa A. Schimmenti. My thesis focused on a large scale morpholine screen and I identified a gene AMBP that when knocked down affected eye and choroid plexus development. Since the choroid plexus of zebrafish was not yet characterized, I was able to collaborate to demonstrate how the choroid plexus developed and implicate a role for Notch signaling. My postdoctoral research was with Dr. Daniel H. Geschwind at the Center for Autism Research and Treatment at UCLA. We focused on using the zebrafish to model Autism Spectrum Disorder.
I obtained a faculty position at the University of Texas at Tyler in 2014, and my lab has continued to focus on using Zebrafish to understand neurodevelopment disorders and has expanded to pharmaceutical screening to look at drug delivery, nicotine cessation, and Parkinson's Disease. I received tenure and was promoted to Associate Faculty in 2020.
