Bio
Doctor in Chemical Sciences and Bachelor in Biotechnology with experience in Microbiology and Biotechnological Processes, particularly in the isolation, purification of proteins, enzymatic activity and production and characterization of polymer materials. The 15 scientific papers, five as the first author, and the 4 chapter book publicized during the researcher career demonstrate my divulgation and independence feature. The international stays, first three months and then six months, demonstrate my ability to adapt to new workgroups and scientific maturity to solve unforeseen events. Furthermore, I co-supervised a few Bachelor students at the University of Rosario, have enough experience to accomplish independent research at advanced levels, a good track of teamwork, successful international collaborations, and a high capacity to assimilate new technique/methodologies and for transfer of knowledge. In the present, I am working as a researcher at the CBQF, under a researcher contracted, where I will confront new challenges both in the professional and personal area, allowing me to expand my scientific knowledge and strengthen my maturity, independence and leadership feature.
Research experience/work experience
Since 2021: Research activities corresponding to a doctorate junior researcher (contracted) at CBQF – Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina, integrated at Escola Superior de Biotecnologia of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Porto, within the framework of the project “STARGATE - sensors and data training towards high-performance agrifood systems". This project is funded by the Horizon 2020 Programme.
The main objective of this project is to enhance the ability of CBQF to respond to the challenges that the European agri-food systems face (climate changes, noncompliant environmental and increased productivity to feed the increasing population).
Moreover, I currently am part of FISHCOLBOOSTER - The development of collagen peptides from fish in an integrated system to obtain high-value fractions for human food, aquaculture and cosmetics. This project aims to value fish by-products rich in collagen-rich protein, through integrated processing to obtain high-value collagen hydrolysates.
2020-2021: Research work corresponding to a Postdoc grant in the field of the project title: Alphamais: Development of new food preparations and functional ingredients based on locust bean. CBQF – Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto, Portugal, under the guidance of Prof. Manuela Pintado. I acquired expertise in the valorisation of agro-forestry, the development of new, functional food products and preparates, using biotechnological and micronization solutions as well as extracting added value compounds from carob pod.
Moreover, I currently am part of FISHMUC - Bioactive properties of external mucus isolated from coastal fish of Macao and Portugal. This project aims to explore the functions, mechanisms of action and the bioactive properties of mucus secreted by coastal fish occurring in Macao and in Portugal.
2019-2020: Research work corresponding to a Postdoc grant in the field of the project title: MULTIBIOREFINERY - Multi-purpose strategies for broadband agro-forest and fisheries by-products valorization: a step forward for a truly integrated biorefinery. CBQF – Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto, Portugal, under the guidance of Prof. Manuela Pintado. I acquired expertise in the valorisation of agro-forestry and fisheries by-products, identification, extraction and characterization of bioactive compounds through green processes.
2015-2019: Research work corresponding to PhD Thesis in Chemical Sciences. Title of the work: "Characterization of new materials for its application in the isolation and purification of macromolecules". Project director: Dr. Guillermo A. Picó. Conducted at the Institute of Biotechnological and Chemical Processes-CONICET. Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences College (FCByF), Rosario National University (UNR). This work is done thanks to a study grant obtained through FONCyT, Agency. PICT-2013-271. I acquired expertise in the handling of various spectroscopic techniques, manipulation of enzymes, chromatography and dynamic light scattering.
2011-2014: Research work corresponding to the work of Thesis to aspire to the title of Bachelor in Biotechnology. Title: "Development of a bioseparative strategy for the production and purification of fungal catalase", led by Dr. Guillermo Picó and carried out in the Laboratory of Physicochemistry applied to Bioseparation, Technology Department of the Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences College (FCByF), Rosario National University (UNR). During the development of this work, I acquired experience in fungal cultures, synthetic polymers, spectroscopic techniques, activity measures and enzymatic stability.
