个人简介
I am a palaeobiologist interested in unravelling the biology and evolutionary dynamics of extinct small mammal taxa, particularly on lagomorphs. I graduated in Biology in 2010 (UAB; extraordinary awards in BSc and MSc) and obtained the PhD title in 2016 (ICP-UAB). I was funded by the most demanding competitive predoctoral contract of the Spanish Government (FPU Call 2010) and my PhD Dissertation (6 peer-reviewed papers) was recognized with the Extraordinary Award and the maximum qualification Cum Laude. Besides, I was awarded the Young Scientist Award of the ISZS (2017). I was an associate professor in the BABVE Dep. (UAB) during the period 2016-18. In 2018, I moved to Roma, joining the Palaeontology Research Group of UR3, for 30 months with a competitive contract. Later, from 2021 (2 competitive contracts), I am establishing my own research line of Vertebrate Palaeontology in lagomorphs and small mammals in UDC (Spain), the only focused on this topic in the University System of Galicia. In 2022, I obtained 2 research projects (inter- and national, >100k€) for developing this investigation line.
I have pioneered the development of models for reconstructing the size of past small mammals that have been followed by researchers from different countries, and the use of top-notch and cutting-edge palaeontological techniques (e.g. palaeohistology) for disentangling their biology and evolutionary history. I authored papers describing new taxa and reconstructing their past habitats. My studies have solved ancient discussion topics in palaeontology and have explained the eco-evolutionary dynamics of extinct taxa. I established the first long-term database of evolutionary responses of small mammals to insularity, being useful for conservation purposes of extant ones. I have an excellent scientific output (26 high-impact JCR papers, 2 in prep, 1 edited book, 2 book chapters, >40 international congresses; 70% of production as first, second or senior author). In this regard, in 2023, I published a book chapter with the renowned Dr. Palombo for the Encyclopedia of Quaternary Science (Elsevier Ltd). At present, I am spearheading fieldwork excavations and interventions in the Galician country, documenting new fossil sites. I have been PI of 5 inter- and national projects and research team of 4 national projects (total amount of >573k €), and obtained 6 research competitive contracts (2 predoc+4 postdoc) and 3 teaching ones. I have >2.5 years of international mobility (8 institutions abroad, 4 countries), being a member of 4 international multidisciplinary research teams; and I have built an extensive international collaboration network (>65 researchers, 11 countries). My postdoctoral papers are fruit of international collaborations that I have established (82%, 14/17), and are not linked to my pre-doctoral research team. My career let me gain experience and essential qualities in leadership, management, knowledge-exchange, etc. I established strong bridges with researchers from different fields, and leaded multi-authored studies from novel and original interdisciplinary views.
Besides, I am an active researcher in outreaching (articles, workshops, media interviews, exhibition curator, social and outreaching projects, etc.), to bring science to society and to spread my results. In addition, I am the supervisor of 1 ongoing PhD student, 6 undergraduates in Spain and Italy (4 finished), volunteers and collaborator fellows. Their results were presented in international congresses, and in high-impact JCR journals (under review). I have a broad university teaching experience, with >650h in BSc/MSc degrees, 2 innovative teaching projects, 4 accreditations, and appointed “cultrice della materia” in Palaeontology (UR3). I co-formed and am co-leading the Vertebrate Palaeontology research team (within GRICA group), formed by 2 postdoc, 1 predoc, 2 BSc students and international collaborators. Besides, I refereed in specialized journals and was member of panels of international grants (Synthesys+) and MSc dissertations. I was a member of Scientific and Organizing Committees, convenor of palaeontological international meetings, and a member of science societies. In 2022, I organized the symposium of “Paleontology of Insular Mammals”, framed at the XIX Conference of the EAVP (Italy), and the 1st Symposium of Paleontology from the NW of Iberian Peninsula (Spain).
