个人简介
Prof. LIN Bin’s research interests remain primarily focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying the neuronal degeneration in retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and glaucoma. Prof. Lin’s group uses a combination of viral-based gene targeting, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology, DNA sequencing, RNA sequencing, single-cell RNA sequencing, LC-MS/MS analysis, and animal behaviour to elucidate the factors that influence the survival of retinal neurons and dissect cellular mechanisms by which these changes occur in RP and glaucoma.
Another focus in Prof. Lin’s laboratory is to develop an optogenetic approach for treating blindness caused by photoreceptor degeneration in RP. Prof. Lin’s group uses an adeno-associated viral vector (AAV) to deliver a light-sensitive protein into the retina to restore vision in blind RP animal models.
As people age, cognitive performance gradually declines. Understanding the biology of aging mechanisms is essential to the pursuit of brain health. As the retina is known as an extension of the brain, Prof. Lin’s group uses the retina as a window to explore pro-aging factors for the development of novel therapies for improving cognitive function in the aging brain.
Over the years, Prof. Lin’s group has published many papers in peer-reviewed international journals, including Neuron, Nature Communications, PNAS, Aging cell and Cell Death & Disease. Prof. Lin was an invited speaker at several international conferences including the Gordon Research Conference and The International Society for Eye Research Biennial Meeting.
