Bhupendra has extensive experience in “synthesis, characterization, and applications of novel porous materials as heterogeneous catalysts”. He has synthesized various micro and mesoporous zeolites (e.g. MFI type, Mordenite, etc.), metal oxides (Al2O3, SnO2, CeO2, TiO2, etc.) and silicas (KIT-6, SBA-15, and MCM-41) in the presence of various templates. The synthesized materials were characterized by PXRD, SEM, EDS, TGA, NH3-TPD, solid-state MAS NMR, ICP-OES, BET surface area and TEM analyses. These materials were further applied in several heterogeneous catalytic reactions including Friedel–Crafts acylation and alkylation, formation of a diacetal from the acetalization of cyclohexanone with pentaerythritol, cracking of 1-octene, isomerization of o-xylene into m-xylene/p-xylene, and conversion of biomass derived chemicals to the value-added products. His research interests also include the synthesis and application of colloids (magnetite, titania, etc.), zeolites, and mesoporous silicas as sorbent materials for sorption of toxic metal ions/radionuclides from wastewater, and in the aqueous speciation of metal ions by using MINTEQ-2 and MEDUSA software’s.
