Research interests
Betina Szkudlarek’s internationally recognised research has been published in top tier international journals as well as covered by major national and international press (e.g. the Wall Street Journal, the Australian, and the Australian Financial Review among others). Her extensive research agenda can be categorised in the following four streams:
Cross-cultural management and International Human Resource Management
Betina has been working with the intercultural community of professional trainers and coaches for over ten years publishing research on cross-cultural training, as well as analysing the professionalization efforts of the community. Within this stream Betina’s focus has been on improving communication within increasingly multicultural work places and facilitating adjustment for employees relocating internationally. She is a lead editor of the upcoming special issue on Intercultural Communication in theJournal Of World Businessand a lead editor of the upcoming SAGE Handbook of Contemporary Cross-Cultural Management.
Cross-cultural education and training
Within this stream Betina’s work is focused on cross-cultural training effectiveness and its ethical execution. Betina’s interest in corporate cross-cultural training finds extension in her work on education practices. In particular, Betina’s research interest lies in the application of non-Western methodologies in teaching, as well as the transformative nature of educational practices.
Repatriation and Reentry Knowledge Transfer
Betina is a world renowned expert in the domain of repatriation and re-entry knowledge transfer. Her work in this domains look at the criticality of repatriate readjustment to their home country and home organization, and how employees can be best supported throughout this challenging transition. Of special interest is the optimization of the re-entry knowledge transfer process, which could provide companies with an inimitable competitive advantage in the increasingly global workplace.
Refugee Labour Integration
Betina’s most recent research project is centred around the topical issue of refugee labour integration. Betina is a recipient of the “Integrating refugees in the workforce, the role of host country social support” grant from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada and has an extensive research agenda around this topic The main aim behind this stream of research is facilitation of refugee labour integration as well as bringing the topic of refugees and non-expatriate migrants to the forefront of business practice.
