Bio
Bernardete Ribeiro is a former President of the Portuguese Association of Pattern Recognition (APRP). She acted as Coordinator of the Bachelor in Informatics Engineering in 2011/13, 2013/15 and 2015/17 and as Coordinator of the M.Sc. in Informatics Engineering for three terms in 1997/99, 2007/09 and 2009/11. Bernardete Ribeiro is a senior member of the Adaptive Computation Group of CISUC and she is Founder and Director of the Laboratory of Artificial Neural Networks (LARN) for more than 20 years. Her research interests are in the areas of Machine Learning, Pattern Recognition, Financial Engineering, Text Classification, Signal Processing and their applications to a broad range of fields. She has coordinated and participated in several projects at national and international level in a wide range of above application areas. In particular, at international level, she has participated in European FP6, FP7 and H2020 research projects such as FP6-MYHEART, FP7-EPILEPSIAE, SUDOE, and H2020 REMAP and KYKLOS. She has served in the Programme Committee of many Conferences and has organised or co-organized relevant scientific events. She is author or co-author of more than three hundred publications including books, journals and international and national conferences. She has delivered numerous invited talks, seminars, and short courses. She served in evaluation panels of USA, EU, and Portuguese institutions, and as board member, associate editor and reviewer of several journals. She is recipient of several awards and recognitions. Bernardete Ribeiro is IEEE Senior Member, IEEE SMC Senior member, member of IARP International Association of Pattern Recognition, member of International Neural Network Society (INNS), member of APCA Portuguese Association of Automatic Control, Member of Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence (APPIA), member of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and member of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
