Bio
Gheorghe-Teodor Bercea IBM Research Division, Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, New York 10598 USA (gheorghe-teod.bercea@ibm.com). Dr. Bercea received a master of engineering degree in computing and a Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Software Performance Optimization Group, Imperial College London, London, U.K., in 2012 and 2016, respectively. He is currently a Research Staff Member with the Advanced Compiler Technologies Department, IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY, USA. He joined IBM as a temporary Research Supplemental in 2015, and then permanently in 2016 as a Postdoctoral Researcher. In both roles, he worked on the implementation of the OpenMP 4.5 offloading model to NVIDIA GPUs as part of the CORAL project with a particular focus on research for achieving high-performance code when adapting high-level programming models to accelerators. During his more recent appointment as a Research Staff Member, he has been working on upstreaming the OpenMP offloading work to the Clang compiler and the OpenMP open-source runtime. His research is now focused on the implementation of OpenMP 5.0 features involving unified memory. In the future, his research aims to expand the impact of high-performance computing principles and optimizations on heterogenous platforms to up-and-coming areas of computer science research.
