Beatriz Merino has a degree in Pharmacy from the CEU San Pablo University (2003). Subsequently, she completed her Doctoral Thesis at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences of the same University (2008), with which she was able to demonstrate the role of cholecystokinin hormone (CCK) in the central and peripheral control of body weight, as well as the controbution of leptin hormone in the regulation of energy homeostasis. Her postdoctoral training continued under the direction of Dr. Gómez Oliver at the Pluridisciplinary Institute of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). In January 2010, she joined the Department of Pharmaceutical and Food Sciences, currently Department of Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences, of the Faculty of Pharmacy as a part-time Collaborating Professor, becoming full-time in September of the same year until the present. In February 2015, Beatriz Merino was promoted to Associate Professor and since July 2021 is Lecturer professor of Pharmacology, San Pablo CEU University and is part of the research group Physiopathology of Obesity (ADIPOBRAIN), recognized as a consolidated group by the USP CEU. His entire line of research has focused on evaluating i) the neuroendocrine effect of high fat diets (HFD) in models of diet-induced obesity (DIO), and ii) the biochemical and metabolic alterations induced in peripheral tissues such as adipose tissue and the heart, highlighting the role of the hormone leptin. More recently, his research has evaluated the effect of saturated and unsaturated fats on energy metabolism and their possible interaction with brain areas involved in memory and learning. These studies have allowed her to publish more than 20 articles, she has also participated in 6 national projects, 2 projects with the industry (BCN-Peptides and Esteve S.A) and 1 private project of the Luzon-La Caixa Foundation within the Metabolep consortium and has co-directed 1 doctoral thesis. From the teaching point of view, Beatriz Merino has taught both theoretical and practical, in different subjects such as General Pharmacology, Pharmacotherapy, Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacokinetics or Toxicology, among others, taught in different degrees (Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Podiatry or Dentistry). It should be noted that all his teaching work has been positively valued through the teaching surveys carried out annually by USP CEU, with an annual grade weighted above 8.5.
