个人简介
Beatriz Lozano-Torres has been trained in molecular recognition, nanotechnology and design of molecular sensors. During the last years of her PhD, she has also specialized training in the detection and selective elimination of senescent cells, implicated in various aging-related diseases and cancer. Her thesis “Novel probes, carriers and prodrugs to target senescent cells in vivo” was slightly delayed due to her pregnancy and will be completed in December 2020. Beatriz completed her work at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, at the Interuniversity Research Institute for Molecular Recognition and Technological Development (IDM), but completed short research stays in various laboratories throughout Spain (Hospital la Fe de Valencia, Spain, Príncipe Felipe Research Center (CIPF), Valencia, Spain, National Cancer Research Center (CNIO), Madrid, Spain and Barcelona Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), Barcelona, Spain) establishing excellent networks of collaborators. She also worked with some of the most renowned Spanish researchers such as Prof. Ramón Martinez-Máñez, Prof. Manuel Serrano, Dr. Mar Orzáez and Dr. Isabel Fariñas Gómez. During her short research career she has contributed to the development of a nanosensor to detect MDMA in situ, an electrical responsive device for controlled release of drugs, various molecular sensors and nanoprobes for senescent cells and a first senolytic drug with specific targeting ability, which minimises the side effects. She has degrees in Chemistry (BSc, MSc, PhD in process), Education (MSc) and is trained in animal experimentation. During her doctorate she was on placement at the University of Pavia, Italy, and worked with Prof. Maurizio Licchelli, during which she has developed a nanomaterial for the detection of an important metabolite of benzene pollutant. Her own and collaborative projects resulted in a strong publication record: for example, so far in 2020 she co-authored 5 publications in high impact journals (as 1st author: B. Lozano‐Torres et al. Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., 2020, 59, 35, 15152-15156; E. González‐Gualda, M. Pàez‐Ribes, B. Lozano‐Torres et al. Aging Cell, 2020, 19, 4, e13142; and A. García-Fernández and B. Lozano-Torres et al. J. Control. Release. 2020, 323, 421-43; and as co-author in I. Galiana et al. J. Control. Release. 2020, 323, 624-634 and E. Garrido et al. Chem. Eur. J. 2020, 26, 13, 2813-2816). She has also co-authored a book chapter published by Springer Nature, several patents (one of them licensed by Senolytix Therapeuthics S.l.) and a review in the prestigious journal Nature Reviews Chemistry. In 2018 she received an award for Young Researchers for her research achievements and the publication of a paper in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (Lozano-Torres et al. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2017, 139, 26, 8808–8811).
