个人简介
Dr. Fields has a long history of developing and adapting technologies for detection and molecular characterization for pathogens, recently focusing on nucleic acid based multiple pathogen assays (MPAs). He has developed and deployed MPAs for syndromic surveillance of respiratory, enteric, central nervous system diseases, and acute febrile illnesses.
He has participated in many outbreak investigations including numerous outbreaks of legionellosis, the hantavirus outbreak of 1994, SARS in 2003, and the intentional anthrax exposure in 2001. While in Kenya he directed laboratory outbreak responses in Zimbabwe, Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Tanzania. He established the first CDC Ebola laboratory in Monrovia, Liberia at ELWA hospital at the height of the Ebola outbreak in August 2014. Dr. Fields returned from Kenya in 2015 where he has served as the International Laboratory Team Lead for the CDC Emergency Operations Center’s Ebola Response until the end of the response. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles, in addition to multiple chapters for scientific texts and review articles. Dr. Fields received CDC’s highest award, the William C. Watson Medal of Excellence, lifetime achievement award, in June of 2011.
