个人简介
After completing a PhD in Plasma Physics, and postdoc positions in Nuclear Fusion research in Germany and Japan, Mark worked as a research scientist at NMI, developing new primary measurement standards and techniques for temperature and optics, publishing over 60 refereed scientific journal articles, over 70 conference papers and numerous book chapters and invited lectures. Mark has chaired a number of national and international metrology committees with NATA, BIPM and APMP. After leading the operations the Temperature, Optical standards and Acoustics& Vibration groups, Mark became Section Manager for MMI’s project teams responsible for Mass, Force, Density, Temperature, Gas and Liquid flow, Acoustics and Vibration, Length, Pressure, Laser and Optical standards, many of which directly underpin the trusted, safe and effective operation Australia’s transport infrastructure: for example load cells used to weigh aircraft and determine thrust, infrared sensors to monitor train brake overheating, aircraft and road noise monitoring, and accelerometers used for crash safety assessments. He was involved in re-establishing a major NMI facility in Londonderry for the calibration of liquid hydrocarbon (Petrol, diesel, LPG) flowmeters, most recently extending this to CNG metering for transport. A current area of interest is the future metrology needs to underpin the adoption of LNG as a transport fuel.
