Bio
Balázs Matuz (Senior Member, IEEE) was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1982. He received the Diploma degree in electrical engineering and information technology from Technische Universität München (TUM) in 2007 and the Ph.D. degree (Hons.) from Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH) in 2013. Since 2007, he has been a member of the Scientific Staff of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Germany. He further visited the University of Parma, Italy, the University of Dalhousie, Canada, the University of Sydney, Australia, and the University of Newcastle, Australia, in the framework of international exchange programs. In 2012, he spent a sabbatical term with the University of Bologna, Italy, as a recipient of the DLR Research Semester Grant. Since 2014, he has been a Guest Lecturer with TUM. During the past years, he has been involved in several national and international projects on this subject. Amongst others, he participated in the development of a DVB-SH prototype system. Likewise, he has been involved in several standardization activities, amongst others in the framework of the consultative committee for space data systems (CCSDS) or the 5th generation mobile networks (5G) standardization. His research interests include novel channel coding and signal-processing techniques for terrestrial and space communications. He serves as a technical program committee member and a reviewer for transactions, journals, and conferences. From 2018 to 2023, he was an Associate Editor of IEEE Communication Letters.
