Bio
Barbara Valent is a university distinguished professor in the Department of Plant Pathology at Kansas State University, USA. She earned a doctorate in biochemistry at the University of Colorado, USA, and trained in fungal molecular genetics as a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University, New York, USA. She worked on rice blast for more than 16 years as a research scientist in the DuPont Company, Delaware, USA and then moved to Kansas State University in 2001. Her recent research has focused on the cell biology of biotrophic fungus–plant interactions and on developing new approaches for controlling blast diseases on rice and wheat.
