Dr. Joseph’s clinical interests are in the areas of emergency surgery, trauma, and surgical critical care. He has invested himself extensively in research and is the director of Trauma Research and the International Research Fellowship. His research focus is on traumatic brain injuries, resuscitation and new therapies, frailty and caring for geriatric surgical patients, surgical outcomes research, and injury prevention. His research is nationally recognized and has been federally funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Institute of Aging, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Dr. Joseph has published more than 245 peer-reviewed publications and 20+ book chapters and is a member of more than 14 surgical/scientific societies, including the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American College of Surgeons, the Academic Association of Surgery, the International Surgical Society, the American Geriatric Society, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
