Bio
B.N. Estevinho graduated in Chemical Engineering (2003), with a master in Environmental Engineering (2005) and a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering (2010), at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).
She was a trainee (6 months) at RAR-Refinarias de Açúcar Reunidas, S.A, and after she developed her PhD in a confidential research project in FEUP/RAR collaboration (2005-2010), related to the microencapsulation of saccharides.
From 2011-2014, she was a Postdoctoral researcher at LEPABE and IBMC. Since 2014, she is Integrated Member LEPABE, first as a Postdoctoral researcher and after as a Junior Researcher, working in the field of microencapsulation and controlled delivery system of active and natural compounds using spray-drying and electrohydrodynamic techniques, for food and medical applications, namely production of vitamins and antioxidants microstructures for food fortification and retinoic acid microparticles for the treatment of the Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia.
In 2016-2017, she participated in the 8th Training School on Microencapsulation - Cork- Ireland), she was a visiting researcher at IATA-CSIC, Valencia, Spain, where she had contact with new microencapsulation methodologies, and invited researcher at Universitatea Tehnica "Gheorghe Asachi" Din Iasi, Romania.
All her background in microencapsulation has provided her strong skills to develop research at the highest level.
Between 2004-2018 She was a teacher assistant at FEUP. In 2010-2012 She was Assistant Professor at University Fernando Pessoa. In 2019-2021, She gave classes of Calculus II (Int. Master Chemical Eng.), in 2021-2022, of Fundamentals of Chemistry (Bach. in Bioengineering) and in 2022 Calculus I (Bach. Chemical Eng.) at FEUP.
She has +75 publications on Scopus. She published 72 papers in international peer review journals (59 in Q1 Journals and from them 16 in Top 5 and 3 in Top 10 Journals). She is the first/last/corresponding author of 87% of the publications. She has +2600 citations in Scopus, an h-index of 30 and an average Impact factor of 6.8.
She has 6 book chapters and 81 participations in international conferences (7 conference papers, 44 posters and 30 oral presentations), 4 oral communications by invitation in international meetings and 3 more in national ones. ~
She participated in several projects financed by companies (4) or by FCT/national or international funds (11), being the principal Investigator of one of them (MICRODELIVERY -227,396 Euros) about the microencapsulation of active compounds, which brought her more scientific and financial independence. She is also responsible at FEUP for the Structural Funding Project, S4Hort_Soil&Food -170,586 Euros-on going.
She received 2 FCT scholarships (PhD and Post-Doctoral).
She has cooperated with national and international Universities and Companies (Spain, France, Germany, Brazil, Romania and Thailand).
She supervised +15 MSc and PhD students, +25 Erasmus and training students +6 researchers (master and postdoctoral), proving her capability to attract the young researchers´ interest.
She was invited reviewer of different international funds programs (France 2016, Belgium 2020, Chile 2021 and 2022, Argentina 2020 and Poland 2021 and 2022).
She was also member of the scientific committee in 5 and chairwoman in 3 international conferences and she had a regular reviewer activity in several international journals.
She was member of Master and PHD Jury defence and as well as Jury for research positions.
She was Editor of 2 Journals and guest editor of 5 special Issues.
She received several awards: 2 best poster, 2 travel grants, 2 cover of the Journal Food and Bioproducts Processing and Best cover image 2021 award of the Journal Food and Bioproducts Processing.
In 2021, 2022 and 2023, she received Scientific Recognition Awards from FEUP.
In 2022, she belonged to the List of the "World´s Top 2% Scientists" cited in 2021 - Stanford University.
