Bio
Dr. Asma Binte Aziz is a Clinician, Epidemiologist, and Vaccinologist with experience in global health, infectious disease epidemiology, and vaccine research, including all phases (I-IV) of clinical trials. Asma grew up in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and was trained in Medicine at Dhaka Medical College & Hospital. She received her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Epidemiology with a Summa Cum Laude Gold Medal. In her professional career spanning over a decade, Asma has worked in diverse settings and led more than 30 vaccine trials and epidemiological studies, including several Polio (OPV, IPV, fIPV, nOPV2), Tuberculosis, Flu, Pneumococcal Vaccine, Japanese Encephalitis (JE), Respiratory Syncytial Virus, Rotavirus, Hepatitis E virus (HEV), Measles-Rubella, etc. Asma, in her current role as a Research Scientist at the International Vaccine Institute, is conducting research on the impact of vaccination on household transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Infection, vaccine development, and vaccine effectiveness evaluation. She completed ADVAC (Advance Vaccinology Course) Training in Annecy France as a fellow Organized by Fondation Mérieux & Université de Genève. Over the years, she gained vast experience working with national stakeholders like the Ministry of Health, drug control authorities, as well as international research collaborative institutes like the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Serum Institute of India, John Hopkins University, MSD Welcome Trust Hilleman Laboratories (P) Ltd. India, PATH, Bilthoven Biologicals, SK chemicals, Korea, University of Virginia (UVA), GSK, Gates Foundation, WHO, Norwegian Institute of Public Health), etc. She published several articles in renowned peer-reviewed international journals and presented her research works as an invited speaker at many international conferences, including WHO’s Polio Research Committee (PRC). She is also a Ph.D. Research Fellow at the University of Oslo, leading the first large-scale Hepatitis E virus vaccine effectiveness study among 20,000 women of reproductive age to evaluate the effectiveness of the HEV vaccine in preventing HEV disease during pregnancy
