Bio
Dr. Potosky conducts health services research to improve the quality of cancer care in the US population. Over his 30+ year career, Dr. Potosky has conducted numerous studies on the utilization, effectiveness, and safety of anti-cancer treatments in real-world healthcare delivery systems. Using prospective and retrospective observational studies, Dr. Potosky studies the impact of cancer treatments on symptoms, function and quality of life throughout the trajectory of cancer survivorship. He possesses expertise in using electronic datasets, such as the SEER-Medicare data, and in creating novel data resources to facilitate investigations into these topics at a population level. He also possesses expertise in designing and implementing patient surveys and in collecting patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Some examples of this published work include the comparative effectiveness and safety of different treatments for early stage prostate cancer, the risk of cardiotoxicity following targeted therapies for breast, colorectal, and kidney cancers, validation of patient-reported outcomes (PROMIS measures), and the impact of predictive genomic medicine on the use of chemotherapy for women with early breast cancer.
