个人简介
Anya Crane, M.S.B.A., employed by Laulima Government Solutions, serves in a key position as the Scientific Technical Writer (contractor), supporting the entirety of the NIH NIAID Division of Clinical Research (DCR) biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) facility, the Integrated Research Facility at Fort Detrick (IRF-Frederick) in Frederick, MD, USA. In this role, she critically edits numerous manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations destined for publication in journals and conference literature; she has been an author on some articles. She also edits protocols, reports, procedures, and letters to collaborators. She also develops and updates templates for these internal documents. In addition, she edits and manages the content for the IRF-Frederick website (https://www.niaid.nih.gov/research/frederick-integrated-research-facility).
Prior to joining the IRF-Frederick, she spent three years as a senior technical writer and editor at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), a scientific research facility under the military organizational umbrella, where she was the primary writing and editing point of contact for good laboratory practices (GLP) and well-documented protocols and reports for numerous studies, many focused on Ebola virus.
Her previous career chapter was spent as a senior technical writer within software development groups that supported health care and medical logistics functions. Most recently, she worked with teams providing medical records management systems for Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration. Just before that role, she worked at the U.S. Army Joint Medical Logistics Functional Development Center; she produced online help instructions, requirements documents, and development plans for a software support system used for all aspects of facility, equipment, and medical supply inventory management. In a preceding chapter of her career, as the associate editor for Dressage Today, a horse sport and training magazine with national circulation, she used her organizational and communications skills to gain experience in publishing and online content development. Ms. Crane’s early career positions were within a biotechnology company, where she attained an understanding and appreciation for the biopharmaceutical industry while gaining experience in corporate communication, quality assurance, and document control. (She concurrently attended classes and completed her master’s degree, defending a thesis on communication in the workplace.)
With over 15 years of experience, Ms. Crane has held positions that, while seemingly unrelated, are connected by processes. Pharmaceutical manufacturing, document management (as a function of a quality control system), the publishing process, the software development cycle, and research study conduct all involve cyclical activities and contain interrelated parts. Additionally, scientific research, equine training and care, medical logistics, and biotechnology all use medical nomenclature. Her work at the IRF-Frederick is at the intersection of science and publishing.
